Nicholas Meitaki Soikan

Nicholas Meitaki Soikan is a Social Development Specialist working with the World Bank’s Forest Carbon Partnership Facility based in Washington DC. He focuses on social and environmental sustainability and social standards related to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, REDD+, in African countries. Prior to joining the Bank, he worked with Indigenous Peoples organizations in Kenya and advocated for Indigenous People’s inclusion in REDD+ and other climate change programs, regionally, nationally and internationally. Soikan holds a Master of Arts degree in Rural Sociology and Community Development from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.

Board of Directors

The Advisory Board oversees ART’s implementation in accordance with the evolving UNFCCC processes and guarantees good governance, transparent rules, and processes that assure quality and adequate safeguards. ART Advisory Board members have all agreed to the ART Board Charter and the ART Ethical Standard. Advisory Board members serve in their personal capacities, not as representatives of their organizations or of particular stakeholder groups.

Secretariat

The ART Secretariat, hosted by Winrock International, is responsible for the operation of the ART program, including the development of The REDD+ Environmental Excellence Standard (TREES) and overseeing the registration, verification and issuance of Board-approved TREES Credits on the ART registry.
