Dr. Timothy Pearson
As TREES Manager of TREES, Dr. Timothy Pearson will lead the development of The REDD+ Environmental Excellency Standard (TREES) through facilitation of expert technical input from the TREES Standard Committee. Dr. Pearson is the Director of Winrock’s Ecosystem Services unit and has been a leader in greenhouse gas accounting from the AFOLU sector for 15 years. He was a member of the CDM Afforestation and Reforestation Working Group between 2010 and 2013 and has authored standards and methodologies for the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate Action Reserve, the Chicago Climate Exchange, the US Department of Energy Section 1605b, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Leaders. He was lead author of the World Bank’s Sourcebook for Biocarbon Fund Projects, lead technical author of the VCS Jurisdictional and Nested REDD Initiative, and lead author of multiple of project methodologies including the Avoided Deforestation Partners REDD+ modules VM0007. Dr. Pearson was the Winrock lead for country support to Guyana, Ghana, Chile, Guatemala, Colombia and Costa Rica, supporting reference level estimation, national forest monitoring system design and REDD strategy development. He is a leader in nested REDD+ including currently serving as an author on the current paper to the World Bank “Approaches to REDD+ Nesting: Lessons learned from country experiences” led by Donna Lee. Dr. Pearson has published on REDD+ in the peer-reviewed literature with a particular focus on forest degradation emissions.
